Photo Exploration # 21: Street Photography?

Is a moment snapped from the street (or public space for that matter) necessarily a street photography?

Convention has it that street photography is (should be):
- a photo taken at a public place (of which the street is part);
- a photo that focuses on a candid action of a human being or human beings; and ...
- ???

I wrote about it once here. But is this one really a street photography? What makes it so? Or not so?

Ah..the teacher comes out. I think it is because it is not posed and is natural...

Anything where you seize the moment and it's not "nature" or "landscape"

I dunno if you've read this somewhat detailed description of what constitutes as street photography by Nick Turpin... while I agree with pretty much everything he stated, it does seem to give an impression that street photography is really hard to do.

The two concepts you mentioned are pretty much the basics for me. Everything else will be assessed case per case. Just like virtually every other genre, there will be 'good' street photography and 'bad' street photography (and everything in between). I think one doesn't necessarily produce a good street photo by fulfilling all the criteria, but by 'playing around' what can be achieved within those criteria...
